HealthLinks Marketing built a unified narrative for the South Carolina Medical Association (SCMA), positioning it as the authentic, physician-elected voice for doctors across South Carolina as hospital-driven groups push a competing agenda. Rather than setting physicians against hospitals, the narrative makes the case that SCMA represents every physician, hospital-employed or independent, grounded in patient-first values, physician autonomy, and accountability to the Hippocratic oath over corporate interests.
The narrative also lays out SCMA’s track record, from its historical milestones to its current work, including its GME program built to close gaps in primary and specialty care access across the state.

Narrative & Message Development, Positioning Strategy, Competitive Messaging Analysis, Stakeholder & Leadership Messaging, Talking Points & Internal Communications, Content Strategy
Our Approach
The narrative leads with inclusion, not conflict. SCMA represents every physician, hospital-employed or independent, and six of the association’s ten executive board members are hospital-employed, a balance that became one of the clearest proof points for a “with them, not against them” message.
The Results
The Outcomes
- 01
One narrative, one voice
Finalized a unified narrative now adopted across SCMA leadership communications.
- 02
From independence to autonomy
Reframed core messaging from “independence” to “autonomy” so it lands with hospital-employed and independent physicians alike.
- 03
Elected, not selected
Set SCMA’s physician-elected leadership against the hospital alliance’s hospital-selected board.
- 04
The oath as throughline
Built a messaging platform tying SCMA’s Hippocratic oath framework and GME program directly into the scope-of-practice fight.
